Yesterday I saw the movie Yes Man.  I really enjoyed it. Even if it was in the middle of the week, it felt like the weekend for a few hours. The mall was very crowded and so was the cinema, but this is the magic of Orange Film – happy hour at the movies on a Wednesday night.

I’ll start with the conclusion: Yes Man is worth your time and attention. It is a comedy that goes beyond smiling – it made me laugh, especially the chicken factory part.  And it is definitely better & funnier than Meet Dave.

The surprise was Zooey Deschanel.  All the time during the movie I had the feeling that she is actually an English singer who acts very well.  Apparently, I’m not the only one: Zooey Deschanel vs. Katy Perry. She is very natural and gives a feeling of authenticity to the movie.

I loved her black coat with red selvage, as seen in the image.  Just lovely! I wonder if it is the creation of the costume designer Mark Bridges.

I wanted to see this movie because of the story: what can happen if you say yes to everything? The answer: a lot! And you can get into trouble too. The point is to use your judgment before you open you mouth.

Still, it is a great exercise for those whose lives are getting nowhere.  If you are bored with life and don’t know what to do next, embrace yes for a week or two and see what happens. Put on a T shirt that says: Yes is the new No. You can even start a blog or a diary and tell your story. See what live throws at you.

The subject of the movie reminds me of the book The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart. In this book, Luke writes down alternative actions for every decision he has to make and then tosses dice to determine which action to take.

In Yes Man – based also on a book, Yes Man by Danny Wallace – there are no options but to say yes to every opportunity. Both methods are worth exploring for a while if you have nothing better to do. The experience will wake up your senses and make you realize that this life is made for living. Finally!

The movie illustrates a very common issue: how does it feel to have no control over your decisions? It sucks, right? So take control over your life and take action, or others will do it for you.
But the big message is to say yes to life in 2009 and to be optimist in these rough times. It souds to me like a presidential speech. |DA|

The down side of the film was the omnipresent brand mentioning. Too obvious, unnatural and boring. 13 brands are behind this movie, but only one of them is repeated over and over again until you want to reach for the remote control.

Definitely, one word can change everything: YES.  Three words can make up your mind: JUST DO IT. Another three words can change your world: I LOVE YOU.
