International Family Day [Ziua Internationala a Familiei]

International Family DayThe International Day of Families is 15 May every year. Proclaimed by the United Nations
General Assembly in its resolution 47/237 of 20 September 1993, this annual observance reflects the importance the international community attaches to families regarding their situation around the world.
The International Day of Families provides an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to the family as the basic unit of society as well as to promote appropriate action to recognize and promote the importance of families.

In this busy world, it is our choice to celebrate this day by doing something with our families. I give you a few ideas to start with:

  1. Make a family album with funny pictures and explanations for each of them (what you still remember). You can organize it by event: weddings, christening, parties, New Year, Christmas, Easter etc.
  2. Gather together as many family members (grandparents, uncles, cousins, aunts) as possible and give them funny prizes: the youngest / funniest / talented / hard-working family.
  3. Listen to the stories of your grandparents about their families and write them down in your diary; after many years, you can tell them to your grandchildren and maybe transform them in written stories.
  4. Call a member of you family with which you haven’t spoken in a long time and enjoy the latest news.

  5. Remember the facts about the things you have as a family heritage.
  6. Make a list of the moral values that you want to teach your children, even if you have no children at this time.
  7. If you are a party planner, choose a day to gather all your big family and have a great picnic , enjoying the weather. International Family Day
  8. Gather your family (husband/wife and kids) around a big bowl of fruit and cookies and talk; play games, tell jokes, relax together and remember what you mean for each other.

  9. Put together your family’s genealogy tree, using the information you have so far and leave it as a legacy to your children to write on it in the future.
  10. Creativity contest: put together with your family a coat of arms, a stamp and a motto which represent you. Then, you can use them to sign your letters, cards, blog etc. or to decorate the place where lay all the family pictures and trophies.
  11. Which traditions and jokes characterize you family? Share them with the other members of your big family and friends. Discover the unique character and authenticity they give you.
  12. Keep a diary or a blog about your family and leave it to your children as a legacy; I’m sure they’ll appreciate it and use it to understand your family’s values, traditions and features passed on.

Hoping these ideas are useful to you, how have you decided to celebrate this year’s International Family Day?
